The Migration Agreements in Euro-Mediterranean Relations for a Geopolitical Europe
Abstract
This paper undertakes a comprehensive examination of the geopolitical objectives pursued by the EU within the context of Euro-Mediterranean relations, elucidating the intricate dynamics embedded in migration agreements and the conflicting narratives it creates between humanitarianism and securitisation. The analysis of migration agreements assumes significance as it converges geographical proximity and policy considerations, encapsulating key facets of geopolitics through (1) prioritisation of securitisation, (2) the Mediterranean as a region and centrality of third countries, and (3) the New Pact on Migration and Asylum Agreement of the European Union (hereafter referred to as the New Pact) and its potential.
