The Republic of Montenegro, member of the Union for the Mediterranean and candidate for EU membership, is soon to become a member of NATO. The inclusion of this country in the framework of NATO and the EU is likely to ensure its stability and contribute to the stability of the region. The article analyses what impact the Montenegro´s candidacy to NATO has had on the country´s relations with Russia and neighbouring Serbia, and what consequences NATO´s enlargement to Montenegro may have on the relations between the West and Russia in general.
