Abstract
The 5+5 initiative is a flexible framework for dialogue among Mediterranean countries based on a sub-regional approach. Through practical initiatives and an exchange of ideas and experience, the 5+5 aims at enhancing mutual understanding and trust in order to cope with security and economic challenges in the Mediterranean region.
According to Jean-François Croustillière, a sub-regional approach like the 5+5 can provide an added value when discussing technical issues of North-South cooperation. In this Brief, the author examines possible areas of cooperation in the 5+5 framework in light of the Arab Spring and the revision of Euro-Mediterranean policies.
