Abstract
The workshop “Democracies in the Making: Egypt at the Centre of Arab Transitions” analysed the democratic transition in Egypt, dominated by a high level of polarisation. It was organised by EuroMeSCo, the European Institute of the Mediterraenan (IEMed) and the Al Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies, with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The report summarises the discussions held during the roundtable sessions, which focused on the challenges and obstacles facing Egypt during its democratisation process and how to overcome them; the regional dimension and geopolitical implications of the Arab Spring; the role of the EU in the region; and the role of think tanks in a polarized and fragmented society.
