Yemeni factions meet and a agree measures to enforce the ceasefire
On 14 and 15 July, representatives of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement met on UN vessel in the Red Sea in order to decide new measures to enforce the ceasefire agreed last December in Stockholm. The agreement aimed to facilitate the troops’ withdrawal from the strategic port of Hodeidah. The UN mission in Yemen, that hosted the meeting in a neutral vessel, published a statement declaring that the two parts “agreed on a mechanism to reinforce the ceasefire and de-escalation, to be put in place as soon as possible with support from UNMHA”. The UN official Michael Lollesgaard chaired the Redeployment Coordination Committee. The UN wants the complete pullback from Hodeidah considering that this port represents the main entrance for food and humanitarian aid. The last meeting of the Redeployment Coordination Committee was on February when they reached a first agreement for the withdrawal.
