Vladimir Putin visits Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to discuss regional issues and seal economic agreements
On his first official visit to Saudi Arabia in 12 years, where he met with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on 14 October, the Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a $2 billion package of deals which include inter-agency and commercial agreements. They also discussed the OPEC+ oil output agreement as well as the situation in Syria and the Persian Gulf and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Besides, Putin and bin Salman attended the first meeting of the Russian-Saudi Economic Committee, which according to Putin, “offers a great opportunity for a direct dialogue between business representatives”. On 15 October, Putin arrived to the UAE, where he met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. Both leaders discussed mutual partnerships and investments. The Russia’s sovereign wealth fund announced that it would sign 10 investment deals with UAE partners, worth more than $1.3 billion. Besides, Memorandums of cooperation in energy and nuclear were signed and geopolitical issues were also addressed. Finally, Putin and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took part in a meeting with representatives of business circles from both countries.
