UN announces that Yemeni parties agreed to pull back from Hodeida
The UN announced that on 17 February Yemeni Government and Houthi representatives reached an agreement for the withdrawal from the strategic port of Hodeida. Houthi group took this city in 2014, from that moment it became a focal point of clashes between the two parties. The UN stated that “The parties reached an agreement on Phase 1 of the mutual redeployment of forces” even if no date was given to begin the demilitarization. According to the UN, the two parties also agreed in principle on Phase 2 but they will need more negotiations. Hodeida is the main entry port for most Yemeni import, including international humanitarian aids. The agreement called the parties to move forces away from ports and parts of the city, but the two-week deadline was missed.
