UfM member states’ representatives address gender equality in the Euro-Mediterranean Region in Cairo
The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) held in Cairo its 4th Ministerial Conference on “Strengthening the Role of Women in Society.” The conference was chaired by the Jordanian Minister of Social Development, Hala Lattouf. A progress report was presented to acknowledge the improvement on the gender equality issue in the Euro-Mediterranean Region and the challenges that all member states have to face in order to promote women empowerment. The UfM member states’ representatives finally agreed to launch a campaign aimed at preventing gender violence in the region. In the Final Declaration issued at the end of the conference, UfM member states agreed to focus their work on “raising women’s participation in public life and decision-making, improving women’s economic participation, combating all forms of violence against women and girls and eliminating gender stereotypes.”
