Trump vetoes Congress’ proposal to stop the US involvement in Yemen war
On 16 April, President Trump decided to reject the parliament’s resolution asking for an end of US’ involvement in Yemen war. The resolution, approved by the Senate in March and by The House of Representatives in April, asked to stop financing Saudi Arabia-led coalition in a four-year conflict that has provoked the death of thousands of civilians and a famine in the country. President Trump explained his decision declaring that “This resolution is an unnecessary, dangerous attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities, endangering the lives of American citizens and brave service members, both today and in the future”. The resolution also appealed to the fact that to decide for an armed intervention is a Congress’ prerogative, and consequently the Parliament accuses president Trump to have violated this constitutional prerogative.
