On 24 January, the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions Agnes Callamard announced an independent international inquiry into the murder of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. While the EU asked for transparent investigations with an official statement by HR/VP Mogherini, in December 2018 the US Senate blamed directly Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Agnes Callamard stated that she will launch the probe during a visit to Turkey from 28 January to 3 February.
