The UfM and the EBRD support entrepreneur women
The support to entrepreneur women in the MENA region is becoming an increasingly important issue in development programs. The UfM held the Women’s Entrepreneurship & Investment Programme (WEIP) 2017, an event to foster opportunities and investment for women across the Mediterranean region. More than 1,500 business stakeholders and over 70 Mediterranean women met from 21 to 24 November in Barcelona to enhance cooperation for creating new jobs opportunities for women and reducing the working disparities between both genders. Also last week, it was announced that over 15,000 women across Turkey have been helped to grow their businesses thanks to the €300 million in loans from coordinated programs launched by the UE, the Turkish government and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The aim of this program is to help Turkish women to integrate the working market. It is estimated that nowadays only 30% of Turkish women participate in the workforce. Loans averaging €15,000 were provided to 14,400 companies in 79 out of 81 Turkish provinces.
