The Permanent Representatives Committee and the European Parliament will negotiate on standards for international protection
The Council of the EU mandated the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) for starting negotiations with the European Parliament on establishing standards for the reception of asylum seekers. The Coreper prepared a draft document of the directive in which the main objective of the process is to harmonise international protection conditions in all EU member states with the aim of avoiding secondary movements within the EU as the conditions of the reception of asylum seekers would be the same in all member states. The draft directive establishes that those applying for international protection should be able to access the labour market 9 months after their application. The document also addresses the situation of minors asking for international protection, as it reaffirms the right for children to have access to education.
