The European Investment Bank takes stock of its financial support to EU Mediterranean Partner countries at EIB-MED conference
The European Investment Bank (EIB) celebrated the 19th edition of the EIB-Med conference under the title “Investing in a resilient inclusive future”, looking back to its scaled-up activities in the region over the last years and reiterating its readiness to continue diversifying its investments in the EU Mediterranean Partner countries, in line with Partnership Priorities of the EU with countries of the region. During the past 4 years, the Bank invested €5.6 billion to support the economies of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia in a wide range of projects, including water and sanitation, public transportation and job creation. These projects have benefited millions of people all over the six countries. One of the tools at the disposal of the EIB is the Economic Resilience Initiative (ERI), which since 2016 has contributed to finance 38 projects with a total value of €3.5 billion targeting education, industry, water and sewerage, solid waste, energy, transport and SMEs sectors. During the event, €130 million were fundraised from different EU Member States, to which €90 million will be added as EIB’s own contribution.
