The EU supports UN-led peace processes in Syria and Yemen during FAC
On 18 February, the Foreign Ministers of EU countries and HR/VP Mogherini met in Brussels. The situation in Syria and in Yemen was discussed. In its conclusions on Yemen, the EU reaffirms its commitment to “the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen”. The EU welcomed the “Stockholm Agreement”, reached in December 2018 under the UN mediation, and supports completely the UN-led political process “including through political dialogue with relevant regional actors”. The Council discussed also the situation in Syria, focusing on the Brussels 3 conference “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” scheduled on 12-14 March. The conference will have a focus on the role of civil society and women in the reconstruction of the country. The EU also stated that it is ready to support Syria during the reconstruction. The Council reminded the importance of the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 in order to have a credible political transition. HR/VP Mogherini announced that UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen will be in Brussel at the end of this week to discuss the Brussels 3 conference.
