The EU supports Tunisian development with €30 million
On 7 August, the European Delegation in Tunisia announced that the EU and Tunisia had signed two conventions for a total amount of €30 million in order to support economic development in Tunisia. The first convention amounts to €7 million and will help Tunisia to modernize its fishing sector and water culture. This project includes also the rehabilitation of the Tunisian port of Kelibia. Fishing is a key sector for Tunisia, representing 10% of its agricultural exports. The second convention is called PROVILLE and consist of projects to build infrastructures and restore 146 poor neighbourhoods with the goal of improving living standards. The Tunisian Minister for Development, Investments and International Cooperation Zied Laadhari declared that “these financial resources will help improve infrastructures in districts populated by citizens with a low income, to promote services for the population and give impulse to new productive sectors and economic activities in these areas”.
