On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the EU commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Hahn had a meeting with the Tunisian PM Chahed on 23 January. During the meeting Hahn announced that the EU recently adopted a €305 million financial assistance package for Tunisia. It is the highest amount ever allocated under the European Neighbourhood Instrument. Hahn declared: “Our commitment to the Tunisian society and our intention to support measures that will help young Tunisians find work and create their own businesses is clear.” The financial assistance will include programs for youth occupation, innovation in the Tunisian economy and local development. The last year was a crucial year for EU – Tunisia relations: the negotiations for a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and for visa facilitations were revived and the President of the EU Commission Junker had an official visit in October.
