The 13th EU-Jordan Association Council discussed cooperation, trade and economic reforms
On 17 June, the Association Council reviewed the state of the EU-Jordan bilateral relations in Luxembourg. Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi and HR/VP Mogherini brought up topics such as progress in the implementation of the EU-Jordan Association Agreement and of the EU-Jordan partnership priorities as well as regional issues. EU and Jordan shared their joint commitment to continue to support the UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) politically, financially and more generally to support the MEPP based on the two-state solution. Cooperation was also discussed on a wide range of areas such as security and counter-terrorism, socio-economic issues, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. HR/VP Mogherini and her Jordanian counterpart signed a Framework Participation Agreement on the participation of Jordan in EU crisis management operations. Jordan is the first country from the MENA region to sign such an agreement with the EU, integrating the nation in the field of EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). This partnership will allow the secondment of Jordanian personnel to the EU missions and operations, both civilian and military.
