Syria and Russia intensify attacks in north eastern cities of Hama and Idlib
During the month of June, Assad’s army backed by Russian army’s support intensified military attacks in the regions of Idlib and Hama. According to Syrian Observatory of Human Rights Damascus and Moscow are carrying on an intense escalation in the north east of the country. Between 16 and 20 June, two major attacks were registered, one in Hama and the other in Idlib. According to Al-Jazeera, the first one provoked death to 100 combatants in 2 days of fight, and during the second one 15 civilians died. On 16 June a Turkish military post in Idlib was attacked, demonstrating that “the Syrian regime has consistently violated the cease-fire, launching frequent attacks inside the de-escalation zone” as Turkish authorities accused. HR/VP Mogherini stated on 25 May that the EU “expects the Syrian regime and the Astana guarantors to fulfil immediately their responsibilities and commitments, and ensure the immediate protection of civilians”. The US president Donald Trump denounced the escalation via twitter claiming the death of “many innocent civilians”. Syrian regime’s news agency SANA reported all these attacks as “targeting of terrorists movements”.
