Spanish FM visited Morocco and urges more EU financial support to Rabat for tackling migration
On 3 June Spanish foreign minister Josep Borrell visited Morocco and met his counterpart Nasser Bourita. During the meeting the two ministers agreed on continuing the “exemplary” relations between Madrid and Rabat in many fields such as migration, commerce and anti-terrorism. Spain “urged the EU to support Morocco in facing the increased inflow of migrants, especially after the migration pressure shifted from the east to the west of the Mediterranean” stated Borrell. During this year 7.876 migrants arrived in Spain by sea according to IOM statistics and during the last year Morocco said it prevented 89,000 migrants to arrive to Europe.
