Qatari Emir visits Xi Jimping in Beijing
On 31 January Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited the Chinese President Xi Jimping. They signed several agreements and discussed about Gulf cooperation. Qatari’s state news agency reported that the two heads of state signed a number of memorandum of understanding that included diplomatic and trade issues. The two leaders decided a road map for Qatar to take part in China’s Belt and Road initiative. Chinese President Xi Jimping also called for harmony within the Gulf countries referring to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and EAU’s boycott against Qatar. Last October Qatar and China signed a five-year agreement for gas exportation and in January Qatar airways announced the acquisition of 5% of China Southern Airlines.
