Qatar becomes the first foreign investor in Turkey
According to a Turkish Central Bank’s report on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Turkey, Qatar has become the first foreign investor in the country. Qatari direct investments to Turkey amounted to $ 601 million during the first semester of 2019, compared to the $85 million in the same period of 2018. Doha currently represents 19.4% of the foreign investments in Turkey. Turkish economy has become one of the most competitive markets in terms of foreign investments, with an increase of 6.3 % in 2019. According to Turkish media, Qatari economic interests in Turkey started with the banking sector, in particular with the acquirement of Abank and Finansbank, to touch later on media holdings like beIN.
