Poland cancels Israeli delegation’s visit
On 13 May, the Polish Foreign Ministry canceled a visit scheduled by Israeli officials to Warsaw saying they had the intention to discuss “the restitution of Jewish properties” seized during the Holocaust, reported Middle East Monitor. A Polish official stated that “Israelis will not be prevented from coming to Poland […], but with regards to their desire to talk about restitution, our position is that the Germans are responsible for crimes against Jews committed in Polish territory during the Holocaust. Therefore, if they are interested in restitution, they should talk to the Germans.” Demonstrators in Warsaw took to the streets of the capital over the past few days to protest a law passed by the US Congress which demanded the restitution of Jewish properties from the Holocaust.
