One police officer killed and several injured during two suicide attacks in Tunisia
On 27 May, two suicide attacks took place in Tunis killing one police officer and wounding several people between security services and civilians. The first attack targeted a police patrol in the city centre of Tunis and the second one happened close to a National Guard base in al-Qarhani district, the interior ministry announced. The Islamic State organization claimed responsibility for the attacks in its news agency Amaq. Many international leaders, such as the French President Emmanuel Macron and the EU HR/VP Federica Mogherini, expressed their solidarity to the Tunisian people. The US Embassy in Tunis announced that it was stopping its activities on 1 July for “security concerns”. The two attacks took place just four months before the next presidential and parliamentary elections.
