No progress in the eighth round of intra-Syrian talks
A new round of peace negotiations was held in Geneva, in another attempt to find a dialogued solution to the Syrian conflict. The meetings were attended by delegations of the Syrian government and delegates of the opposition groups under the mediation of the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura. The head of the Syrian government delegation, Bashar al-Jaafar, assured that there will be no peaceful solution if the opposition keeps demanding the departure of Bashar al-Assad as the President of Syria. Its delegation left the negotiations and returned to Damascus after these declarations. International Community reaffirmed the necessity of ceasing violence and to reach a negotiated end to the conflict. The UN’s, main mediator in the negotiations, recalled the difficult humanitarian situation that are suffering over 13 million people in the country. While international community tries to make pressure to achieve a peace agreement, al-Assad seems to be reconsolidating his power. This weekend, the governmental army destroyed Jabhat al-Nusra fortified hideouts and dens in the outskirts of al-Rehjan town which is located around 70 km northeast of Hama city. For its part, Russia warned that will not tolerate the presence of foreign troops after the total defeat of ISIL without the approval of Syrian authorities.
