Nabil Karoui, the businessman
Nabil Karoui, 56-years-old, born in Bizerte, is a Tunisian businessman, owner of the notorious TV channel Nessma. He started his career founding a communication agency and a public relation firm (Karoui & Karoui World) and in 2009 he became the Head of Nessma. In 2011, he helped Beji Caid Essebsi create the party Nidaa Tounes, that he left in 2017. In June 2019, he became President of a party called “Au Coeur de la Tunisie” . On 23 August, he was arrested on money laundering and tax evasion charges. He is still allowed to be a presidential candidate as he has not yet been sentenced by a Court. The fight against poverty, the unification of security forces’ coordination (army, police and customs) to improve the security in the country, a foreign policy based on economic diplomacy and a reinforcement of the Arab Maghreb Union are some of the proposals presented by his electoral team on 4 September.
