Mogherini travels to Algeria to discuss fighting terrorism and common priority topics
HR/VP Mogherini participated in the second session of the High-level Dialogue on Cooperation in the fields of regional security and the fight against terrorism in Algiers. She pointed out that “the European Union and Algeria are natural partners when the issue is related to regional security and the fight against terrorism”, and added that both countries share “the same objectives in terms of regional stability and security, because the security challenges have no borders”. She also discussed with Messahel, Algerian Foreign Minister, several common priority topics, such as Libya and the east region as well as bilateral cooperation in the economic, scientific and energy fields. Shortly before their meeting, Minister Messahel said that “they will also exchange point of views on recent developments of regional and international issues of common concerns (…) the meeting will also be an opportunity for the two parties to explore the reality and prospects of their extensive and comprehensive bilateral relations”. During her visit, Mogherini also met Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia to broadly discuss the partnership between the two countries, especially related to trade and economy again, as well as migration.
