Migrant boats try to reach Italy
On April 10, a boat wrecked near the Libyan coast where 8 people died at sea, while 20 other were rescued by the Tripoli coast guard and returned to Libya. To this, Matteo Salvini tweeted “Very good!” The ONG Allarm Phone responded that it was shameful to return migrants to a war zone and lamented that this refoulement was met with general indifference. On April 11, 70 migrants were intercepted near Lampedusa and brought to the island by Italian authorities. They were of Tunisian and Libyan nationality and they were aiming to reach the Sicilian shore.
