Israel strikes Hamas objectives after a rocket injured seven Israelis
Tensions started on 25 March when seven Israelis were wounded near Tel Aviv by a rocket fired from the Gaza strip. Hamas denied any responsibilities for the attack but Israeli authorities decided to react targeting strategic positions of Hamas, such as its headquarters. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who was in Washington for an official visit, interrupted his stay and went back to Israel. A Hamas official announced that Egypt facilitated a ceasefire agreement with Israel but it was not confirmed either by Egypt nor Israel. The renewed tensions come few weeks ahead of the Israeli general elections (to be held on 9 April) in which Netanyahu is fighting to maintain himself in power. During his visit to the US, Netanyahu met President Trump who officially recognized the Israeli sovereignty on the occupied Golan Heights.
