HR/VP Mogherini holds talks with Moroccan FM Bourita on EU-Morocco relations
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita travelled to Brussels, where he met with HR/VP Federica Mogherini as part of a series of regular meetings between the two high level representatives. Since December 2016, EU-Morocco relations have been crossed by several tension peaks in the context of the negotiation of a new agricultural agreement which included Western Saharan contested territories into the competences of the treaty. After a ruling of the EU Court of Justice concluded that such territories could not be included in the agriculture and fisheries agreement, Morocco announced that it could intensify its trade relations with Russia and China in agriculture and fisheries. This meeting was held two months ahead of the issuing of the conclusions by the Advocate general of the EU Court of Justice on this case, on 15 December. Sources say that negotiations between the EU and Morocco are still on regarding this topic, as Morocco is allegedly trying to convince EU authorities to apply the agreement on all Moroccan territory.
