Four migrants dead and 16 missing trying to reach Spanish coast
Four migrants have died and other 16 are missing after trying to cross into Spain from Morocco. 58 people were rescued by the Spanish coastguard from a raft that was drifting around 37 miles (60km) off the coast of Morocco. Out of the four casualties, the bodies of three were recovered from the water and the fourth one died after being taken to the shore. The rescued were brought to Melilla, where they were attended by the Spanish Red Cross. European and Spanish authorities deployed boats and a plane to search for the missing people as well as for a separate craft carrying 78 migrants that is believed to have set off from Morocco on the night of 26 November. Over 1,140 migrants have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean during 2019 according to the International Organization for Migration.
