Fighting in Tripoli threatens the Libyan ceasefire.
On 20 January, in the southern part of Tripoli some fighting broke out between the 7th Brigade and Tripoli Protection Force. According to the Libyan Health Minister, during the fighting 11 people were killed and 43 got injured. On Sunday a delegation from Bani Walid (a village located at the south of Tripoli) went to the capital to discuss with Tripoli dignitaries about the security situation. The PM of the Government of National Accord Al Serraj visited, on the same day, the international airport of the capital in which the The Presidential Council’s Interior Ministry organized a special plan for security. On Thursday 21, Maja Kocijancic, the EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy made a Statement expressing preoccupation for the threat to the ceasefire. In the Statement, the EU Spokesperson extended her condolences to the families of the victims and stated that: “All those who undermine the political process or threaten the stability of Libya will be held accountable.” She finally reiterated that the EU supports the efforts of the Libyan Ministry of Interior in coordination with the UN Mission in Libya trying to ensure security and stability in the capital, and that Libya crisis doesn’t need violence but a negotiated solution.
