Factions within Hadi’s coalition fight for control of Aden against southern rebels
Over the last weeks, several clashes and offensives have contributed to rising tensions in Yemen. On the one hand, governmental forces and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) are fighting for control of the strategic city of Aden; on the other, the Saudi-led coalition re-started bombing the north-western regions of the country, currently under Houthi control. On 28 August, governmental forces announced that they had retaken control of Aden after the STC had forced them out of the city in the previous weeks. On the northern front, the Houthis denounced a Saudi-led coalition’s attack in a detention centre in Dhamar in 1 September, which allegedly caused dozens of victims.
