Eight civilians killed after an attack on displaced people’s camp in Yemen
On 27 January the UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande denounced the shelling of a camp for displaced people in Yemen’s northwestern Hajjah province. In the attack eight civilians died and 30 got injured. The UN did not specify the responsible of the shelling. Lise Grande underlined the gravity of what happened declaring: “Parties to the conflict are obliged to do everything possible to protect civilians. The people who have fled their home to IDP (internally displaced person) sites have lost so much already. An attack like this cannot be justified – ever”. Despite the ceasefire agreement in the city of Hudaydah (the country’s main port) reached in Stockholm in December, there have been new clashes over the last weeks. On 25 January the UN announced that a fire caused by suspected shelling in the region of Hudaydah damaged some wheat silos threatening food supplies for millions of hungry people.
