‘Davos in the Desert’ business summit recovers after 2018 boycott
Between 29 and 31 of October Riyadh hosted the third edition the event ‘Future Investment Initiative’, better known as ‘Davos in the Desert’, an investment summit which gathers top global leaders, banks and sovereign wealth funds, projecting the country as a dynamic investment destination. According to the organisers, the 2019 edition counted on the participation of 300 speakers from 30 countries, including names such as Jair Bolsonaro, Narendra Modi, King Abdullah II, Jared Kushner, David Cameron, François Fillon and companies like Blackstone, HSBC or Credit Suisse, among others. The event seems to have recovered from the boycott if suffered in 2018 in protest for the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
