Commissioners Avramopoulos and King host the third Ministerial meeting of the EU Internet Forum
Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos and Commissioner for the Security Union Julian King hosted the third Ministerial meeting of the EU Internet Forum, an event that brings together EU Home Affairs Ministers, the internet industry and other stakeholders in order to fight online radicalization and the spread of radical content. The main issue discussed has been the development of automatic tools for detection and removal of terrorist content online, such as the database of known terrorist content, announced in the 2016 EU Internet Forum and launched in spring 2017. At the same time, The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) evaluated the progresses done on containing youth radicalization during its plenary session of December. Despite admitting a number of high-quality EU and Member State initiatives and measures, the members of the committee agreed that further efforts should be made. They put emphasis on the necessity of renewed efforts to involve civil society and to focus on long-term strategies, as well as on the key role of prevention and integration rather than punitive security policies driven by “crisis” events.
