Commissioner Avramopoulos commends Morocco’s stability and sees it as crucial factor for migration management
European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos visited Morocco, where he met with Moroccan Interior Minister, Abdelouafi Laftit and Moroccan FM Nasser Bourita, to discuss migration management as a report by Frontex showed that in recent months the number of crossings between Morocco and Spain increased after several months of decrease. Commissioner Avramopoulos commended Morocco’s stability within the region and stressed the commitment by Moroccan authorities to tackle the illegal migration issue. The two Ministers and Commissioner Avramopoulos then indicated that they will increase their contacts towards improving migration management in the country. FM Bourita was received by HR/VP Mogherini on 23 October in Brussels as part of the regular contacts Morocco has been holding with the EU recently.
