Clashes in Sinai between army and terrorists
On 4 June, several attacks to governmental check points provoked the death of 8 soldiers and 5 members of local militias. The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that “Terrorist elements targeted a checkpoint west of El Arish early this morning – and that – the exchange of fire killed terrorist elements and eight police were martyred”. On 28 May Human Rights Watch published a report denouncing the situation in the area. The document read that “the Egyptian military and police have carried out systematic and widespread arbitrary arrests—including of children—enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings, collective punishment, and forced evictions” during the military campaign.
