Algerian PM to resign, Reuters reports
On 10 September, two senior sources told Reuters that the Algerian PM Noureddine Bedoui intended to resign in order to facilitate new elections. While this Government did not confirm this information, the Army’s Chief of Staff Ahmed Gaid Salah reiterated that elections are a priority for Algeria in this moment. Bedoui’s resignation is one of the protesters’ main demands since the former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika stepped down from power in April. Despite some concessions from military authorities, such as the arrest of prominent figures linked to Bouteflika under corruption charges, protesters do not accept new elections until the regime’s old guard is completely removed.
