Al-Serraj holds an official visit in Ankara
On 20 and 21 March, the head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Serraj held an official visit in Ankara where he met the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They talked about recent developments in Libya and bilateral relations. They also expressed the need to improve economic cooperation between Ankara and Tripoli. Al-Serraj confirmed his commitment to achieve a national consensus in Libya and to unify the country in many aspects including the military. He stated that “The current state of division can’t continue and there will be no military solution to the crisis; […] institutions and parties must realize that the return of stability depends on consensus”. President Erdogan expressed his support to the democratic process in Libya declaring that his country “supports the democratic process in Libya – and – stands with the Libyan people’s choice.” This visit came shortly after UN special envoy for Libya Ghassan Salamé announced a national conference between Libyan parts scheduled on 14 – 16 April in Ghadames.
