Al Sarraj meets Tunisian PM Chahed and UN envoy to Libya Salamé
In late July, the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj met in Tunis with the Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed and the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, in order to discuss about the current situation in Tripoli and Libya. Chahed expressed his concern over the targeting of civilians near the Libyan capital and stressed once again that Tunisia does not conceive a military solution to the conflict. Al-Sarraj praised Tunisian facilities used to treat the injured in the attacks over the capital. In the same week, Al-Sarraj also met with the Head of UNSMIL, Ghassan Salamé, and informed him about the conditions for the resumption of the political process in the country. In particular, the leader of the UN-backed Government of National Accord asked for Khalifa Haftar’s retreat to his pre-offensive bases. Salamé reiterated that the UN condemn all attacks against civilians and asked for a political solution to the crisis.
