After the legislative elections, Ennahda is the first party in a fragmented Tunisian parliament
On 9 October the Tunisian Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) published the official results of the parliamentary election held on 6 October. According to ISIE’s result, the moderate Islamist party Ennahda is the first party with 52 seats of 217. The presidential candidate Nabil Karoui’s recently-created Heart of Tunisia is the second force with 38 seats followed by Tayyar (22 seats) and Karama (21 seats). The pro Ben Ali PDL, recently on the rise, is the fifth force with 17 seats while the PM Yousself Chahed’s Tahya Tounes obtained 14 seats. The current first political force of the country, Nidaa Tounes, lost almost all its supporters taking just three seats. According to analysts, the new parliament represents the fragmentation of the Tunisian society and its disappointment towards the political forces that were in power during the last five years. During the electoral campaign Ennahda and Heart of Tunisia excluded any post-elections coalition.
