58 migrants die after their boat capsized in the Atlantic Ocean
At least 58 migrants, including women and children, died after their boat capsized in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Mauritania, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported. The boat carrying at least 150 people, departed from Gambia on 27 November, and was low on fuel while approaching Mauritania. 83 people swam to the shore after the shipwreck and received attention of Mauritanian authorities in Nouadhibou, in the north of the country. This incident is one of the deadliest that has taken place in the Atlantic since Spain, Mauritania and Senegal stepped up patrols in the area in the mid-2000s.
