12 dead and 12 missing in the sinking of a rickety boat in the Alboran Sea
In the early morning of 20 December, Spanish Sea Rescue rescued 33 people from a rickety boat that sailed on 18 December from Morocco heading to Spain, and in which 11 dead bodies were found (10 men and 2 women, one pregnant). The boat drifted for two days in the Alboran Sea, and the sources consulted have indicated that the search is currently underway for another three rickety boats in the sea. Later on the day, the Red Cross brought a balance of the tragedy that elevates to 12 the number of deaths. According to local press, one of those rescued died in the Almeria hospital, while other 12 are missing and 31 are attended by the emergency services.
