Mission and objectives

The Jean Monnet EuroMed Centre was created by the Department of Political Studies in 1997. An agreement between the University of Catania and the European Commission in the framework of the Action Jean Monnet acknowledges the Centre as European Centre of Excellence whose aim is to develop multidisciplinary activities relating to the construction of the European Union both within the university and at regional level, with special reference to the process of cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

The programs of the Centre have strong ties with the knowledge developed by political scientists about the current process of change of the state, the global system, and the relationships between global trends and local processes.

The Centre is currently involved in H2020 research project, aiming to analyse the Mediterranean migration crisis and the legitimacy and effectiveness of the EU crisis management strategy.
