Mission and objectives
The Centre d´études et de recherches sur le monde arabe contemporain (CERMAC) at the Catholic University of Louvain was founded in 1975 by Prof. Dr Bichara Khader. Its main objectives were to raise awareness of the problems and prospects of contemporary Arab societies.
Following the UCL´s research entity reforms, the center was renamed as Groupe d’études et de recherches sur le Monde Arabe contemporain (GERMAC), attached to the Centre d’études des crises et des conflits internationaux (CECRI) and Centre d’études du développement (DVLP).
The center focuses its research on contemporary political, economic and social evolutions of Arab countries, both at internal and external level, EuroMed relations, as well as Middle East geopolitic.
