Institute of World Economics
Mission and objectives
The Institute of World Economics focuses on global economic trends and their effects on Hungary. It is the oldest and most experienced institute in this field in Hungary. As the successor to the Institute for World Economics founded in 1973, the Institute adopted its current name and structure in 2012.
The Institute’s researchers have been evaluating economic trends for several decades. The Institute is committed to comparative economic and political analysis in a historical context, to understanding and explaining the effects of global trends, and to analyzing the successful and unsuccessful responses of individual countries to world economic questions.
Both the Research Groups on European Integration and on Developments Economics have a research interest partly connected to the Euromed region. The research activity of the Institute and of the researchers is policy oriented, focusing on the political economic backgrounds of the EU’s Mediterranean Policy and on the economic, political and security perspectives of the Southern Mediterranean countries.
