Increasing Diversity in the Euro-Mediterranean Region?

The EuroMeSCo network held its Annual Conference and General Assembly on 2-3 October 2014 in Tarragona. The event gathered more than 90 participants from 25 Euro-Mediterranean countries, including policy-makers and experts from 60 research institutes on politics and security in the Mediterranean.

The conference analysed the opportunities and challenges resulting from the growing fragmentation and diversity in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The sessions explored the role of internal and external actors in regional conflicts and in supporting democratic transitions. The experts also focused on the current state of political reforms and analysed the factors behind continuity and change of the regional political systems. They also explored the role of the EU in the Mediterranean region and put forward a series of policy recommendations to enhance the EU´s leverage and the impact of its policies.
