|Research Workshop on The Union for the Mediterranean: Challenges and Prospectives|
3 November 2008Research WorkshopEuropean Parliament, Brussels, Belgium
In the context of the Arab Week, celebrated at the European Parliament from 3-7 November 2008, the Euro-Med Delegation organised an afternoon seminar in cooperation with EuroMeSCo, which was held in Brussels on Monday, 3 November. Participants explored the future of the Union for the Mediterranean initiative from both a European and a Southern perspective, considering its potentials and added-value.
The meeting was also attended by members of the public -including NGO representatives, journalists and students - who contributed useful questions to the debate.
In view of 2008 being the European Year for Intercultural Dialogue, the European Parliament decided to host a themed week devoted to Arab issues and culture, in liaison with the League of Arab States. The various scheduled meetings, events and exhibitions offer an invaluable opportunity for dialogue and exchanges, hopefully creating synergies between culture and politics. Open to the public, this Arab Week also aims to engage with the Arab communities based in Brussels.
